Is there any somewhat reasonable way to list what the currently most sophisticated and reliable brands in hearing aids? Or brands to avoid? I'm inquiring into Phonak, Siemens, and Starkey as of this time. Any words of wisdom on all this?

Just today I felt like something was in my ear. I forgot about it and a couple of hours later a dried dark chunk fell out of my ear. Maybe dried blood or dried wax? I have a little discomfort near my ear/jaw region but not real bad pain. Any idea to what it may be? does it sound okay or should I get it seen about? Thanks.

Hello,
I was in a fight and was thrown on the ground. I hit my left head really hard on a marble carpeted floor. When I woke up my left ear is a little more fuzzy- not 100% like my right. I can still hear but I notice a difference. When I plug my nose and blow I can "hear my breath" from inside and it is warmer (on the left).
Is it possible to have damaged the ear drum from a hit to the head? Is it possible that it will be permenant?

I get fluid in my ears about twice a year. It last for about two weeks and it fell like i have my finger stuck in my ear. The ENT said i could use a decongestant, but the fluid always returns. I have considered tubes, but i'm afraid the fluid will just return. Is there any other way to get rid of fluid?

My daughter is 3 years and two months. I had her hearing tested in Feb. 06. She seemed to have delayed speech, so I was ruling out a hearing problem. Her results showed she tested within normal limits. However, I was told her left ear had a bit of fluid (her results were -340 on the typanometry test). She did have an ear infection in March, with a reinfect in april, another in June and fluid was still in her ears in August. My pediatrician did not think that this was the same infection. I was then sent to the ENT who said her ears appeared clear but wanted to do the tympanometry test and her left ear again came back at -370. He was very concerned about this number and suggested with her history of ear infections (9 since 9 months of age, with two reinfects) and speech delay, and diagnosis of PDD NOS (March 06) that we proceed with tubes. I have the following questions: What numbers are within normal limits for the tympanometry? Should we have been concerned in February? Could this be having an impact on her hearing and language development? Will placing tubes in her ears have an effect on speech development?
Thank you for taking the time to review and answer my questions. Mary Jo

i have been living here nice and queit 5 years till this church came in put up 4 blairing bull horns everyday all day long starting at 7 am i have asked the Roman Catholic church to cut the noise. i sent enough letters and made enough phone calls to fill an inch-thick file with no success The church's bells -- which aren't actual bells but a recorded carillon broadcast through bull horn speakers -- ring hourly from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, A wedding or funeral will inspire a ringfest, too. having to "hear 10 minutes of droning megaphone chimes every hour
chiming to "a loudspeaker blast as loud as your alarm clock every 15 minutes," starting at 7 a.m. "They shouldn't dictate to the neighborhood when to commemorate 9/11 by ringing their bells for a solid hour at 6 a.m. in the morning
In the first place, we feel that hourly broadcasts are excessive in a pluralistic society, particularly when the "bells" are actually just an automatic appliance. But— every 15 minutes on a Sunday??! "If Saturday Sunday is maybe your only day off, would you really want to hear a loudspeaker blast that is as loud as your alarm clock every 15 minutes starting at 7 AM?"We feel that hourly ringing is excessive especially if the broadcast is not a simple striking of hours but of some musical selection If you're someone that likes to think, likes to read, likes to create art, likes to get into one's unconscious via some tranquility in the home, then this a major disruption.

Hi:
My Mother had a stapendectomy in her left ear in 1963, performed by Dr. Brown at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She is now 85 years old and her neurologist suspects a stroke. He wants to do an MRI, but her ENT has told me that there is a possibility that metal was used in the stapendectomy in 1963. I need to know if it is safe for her to have an MRI. Can you help?
Thanks,
Ginger Johnson

hello,
my mother is 65 years of age with Diabetes and sometimes high BP.Last year she had some kind of ear infection which was diagnosed at that time to be a bacterial infection by our local doctor. She used to have acute pain in her left ear for sometime and then it subsided and started in the right ear.this also subsided after some time. She could hear with the help of a hearing aid for sometime with her left ear but nothing with right ear.She has lots of imbalance because of which it is difficult to leave her alone.During the time of infection
and after that also her blood sugar PP levels had gone up to 500 so she was given insulin injections. Now her left ear also seems to be affected and is not able to hear even with a hearing aid.She is very depressed. Can you suggest something.
